The Friends of the Loutit District Library are hosting an electronics recycling event in the Library’s Columbus Avenue parking lot on Saturday, September 28 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Friends are working with Comprenew Environmental, the only nonprofit electronics recycler based in Michigan that is licensed and registered by the State of Michigan and is certified R2:2008 for Responsible Recycling.
Last year, Comprenew kept over 3.5 million pounds of electronics out of landfills. This amount is only a fraction of the electronic waste in West Michigan. Comprenew’s efforts to collect and process more electronics will allow them to easily exceed 4 million pounds this year.
The list of electronic devices that are eligible for recycling at this event is long and includes items like batteries, cell phones, microwaves, radios, televisions, and computers. Please check Comprenew’s website at
http://comprenew.org for a complete list of acceptable items. What will not be accepted at this event are light bulbs, refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers or large appliances.
Revenue’s generated from this event are returned to the Friends who in turn donate funds to the Library to supplement the Library’s budget. Recent donations made to the Library by the Friends include plants for the Library’s butterfly and hummingbird garden, large and small Grand Wavin’ sculptures, and donations to both the Children’s and Adult summer reading programs.
